Only a Cat can tame a Savage Beast, or a little girl with Heavy Hands

You all know by now that I have lost my heart to a little girl. A little girl with big brown eyes and hair filled with curls. Her name is Baby J!

And even though Baby J looks like a delicate little flower she is really more like a tornado, and I mean that in a good way! She is non-stop the whole time and she throws herself into everything.

If she wants a glass of water she grabs it with her little hands and tips the whole glass into her mouth. If she's playing with a toy and she wants to set it down she plops it down with all her might. She is what we lovingly call "manos de fiero" or "hands of steel". She does nothing lightly and delicately.

One thing she absolutely delights in is watching videos on my lap top or my cell phone. Cat Videos! She loves them and the minute she sees me she says "Tats, tats, tats!" Over and over until I put a youtube cat video on for her.

The other day I found a cat video for her that we had never seen. Baby J was laying on my bed and she wanted to hold my cell phone to watch the video. Need I say I don't trust her? Well I don't. I could just see her tossing my cell phone over her head and banging it against the wall, so I help on to it which didn't make her too happy.

But then she did something, something so sweet and gentle and loving that it made my heart melt with love for this little girl all over again. Watch this video, it's short, about a couple of minutes long or you can go to the 2:13 mark to see what I'm going to talk about.

So see the last cat? A sweet little kitten in a basket? Well the first time Baby J saw that kitten she took her little fingers and ever so gently stroked the screen of my phone like she was petting that kitten. I had never seen her be so gentle and then she brought the phone up to her little mouth and kissed it! And she does that every single time she watches this video. I think she's going to be a cat lover, like me!

This post was inspired by A Letter to My Cat by Lisa Erspamer, a collection of letters penned by celebrities to their furry friend. Join From Left to Write on November 10th as we discuss A Letter to My Cat. As a member, I received a copy of the book for review purposes.

    1. Well they do say the only reason the internet was invented was for the cat videos :) I really enjoy watching them with Baby J. And thank you, she really is a beauty!

  2. I volunteer at an animal rescue clinic each week and our head vet tech's little girls walks into the rescue and just snatches at cats and grabs at fur and the cats roll with it. I bring my niece to the rescue and it's the same deal. Granted, I steer kids away from the more .... feisty cats, but see kids' openness to loving animals warms my heart.

    1. I read your post about volunteering and I loved your photos! It's a good thing you do and more people should help out. I know my daughter is a big animal lover and she is constantly taking supplies to local animal shelters. She's about emptied me out of blankets!

  3. I agree with Kim, Baby J is gorgeous! Is anyone allergic to cats? Maybe having a kitten would help her manos de fiero become manos de terciopelo (velvet)? :)

    1. :) That is cute! Maybe it would help. We have two dogs and she's ok with them, but you have to watch her because her love is pretty aggressive! She won't watch dog videos though, there is just something about the 'tats" that she loves. Thank you, I think she's a beauty as well :)

  4. When little manos de fiero gets a little older and understands that cats are living things, you should get her a cat.

I love cats, well at least ours, but I am not big on cat videos.

    1. Hopefully she will become a bit more gracious and tender towards the world as she gets older, but I think manos de fiero tend to run in our family. I have a brother and a couple of nieces that couldn't be gentle to save their lives. They slam doors and break things all the time just because they are so heavy handed.

I used to have a cat ages ago. A white Persian named Norman. I was going to write about him but I couldn't find pictures of her and what is a post without pictures. She disappeared one day and my dad told me the farm laborers working in a field at the back of our house took her to make tamales. My dad!
