Books I Read in 2023 and 2022

I started keeping track of books that I read way back in 2012 using the website goodreads

I also started doing a blog post every year with pictures of the books I read each year, but I believe in 2022 I was a slacker and didn't do it...so this is a twofer, you get two years combined in one post. Yay you!

Well you don't have to read this post much because mostly I just want to have a record of what I've read, although Goodreads keeps the record on their website as well. But hey, if you read any of the books I read, let me know. If you have books you want to recommend then recommend away.

2023

I'll start with 2023. I challenged myself to read 25 books and I exceeded that goal by 4! Below is the list:

2022

Now on to 2022 where I challenged myself to read 50 books but I only read 34. Luckily in 2023 I was more realistic.

Just for my own records and for posterity since I'm sure someday when I'm dead and gone my kids will probably come back to this blog to remember their mom and I want them to remember that I gave them a love of reading and I hope they always read; I want to keep track through the years, so here's the list from 2012 to the present. Isn't Good Reads great to do this for us?

I've already started 2024 with a bang, I'm reading Me Before You by JoJo Moyes. Jo Jo is my new favorite author and I have her book The Ship of Brides up next on my nightstand. I think I may only read JoJo Moyes books in 2024, she's definitely got enough of them!

Are you a reader? What are you reading? What's your favorite book?

Books Read in 2017

It's that time again....time to write a post about the books that I've read in 2017.

I've been keeping track of the books I've read ever since 2009 and somewhere along the way I joined Goodreads and they kept track for me, well...as long as I logged the books in they kept track.

So here's a breakdown of books read from 2009 to 2017:

Makes me wonder why some years I read so little? For 2017 I set a doable goal of 12 books, figuring it shouldn't be that difficult to read a book a month. It wasn't, because I actually read 15 books! Yay me! This is the little banner that Goodreads prepared for me.

Here's a list of the 15 books. To tell you the truth, I don't remember too many of them. I did try to review some of them as I went along. I think probably the one I enjoyed the most was The Deepest Secret.

You can read my review of The Deepest Secret HERE. The other books was The Most Dangerous Animal of All which I read while I was at Jury Duty.

If you want to see a list of books by year you can just type in "Books Read" in the search bar to the right and all those posts will come up.

I've set a lofty goal of 25 books for this year. We'll see how I do. I was just telling my mom that I remember that I used to read in bed from half an hour to an hour every evening, but now I have a tablet and instead of reading I watch Art Tutorials every night instead. Maybe I'll do an Art Tutorial one night and read a book the next night.

What about you? Do you do any reading? What kind of books do you enjoy? What book or books can you recommend to tear me away from YouTube?

Happy Reading in 2018!!! 25 books....here I come!

Books Read in 2015

I've been keeping track of books that I've read each year since 2009. From 2009 until 2012 I kept track on my own and on my blog, but in 2012 I signed up for Goodreads and they keep track for me. So here's my countdown: ( you can click on each year to go to that post and see my list of books if you so desire)

2009 - 24 books
2010 - 24 books
2011 - 29 books
2012 - 26 books - Goal was 30 books
2013 - 18 books - Goal was 30 books
2014 - 33 books - Goal was 20 books

and drum roll please ......

Of all those years that I have been keeping track I only met my goal one year, in 2014 and then I far exceeded it. I blame Facebook, television and my iPhone for distracting me from reading as much as I should and used to read!

But, instead of beating myself up I'm setting the same goal for 2016, 35 books and forging ahead to try to meet or beat this goal!

Goodreads has done this cute little page that not only keeps track of how many books, but also, how many books and how many pages...

It tells me which of my books was the shortest and the longest...

Which of my books read was the MOST popular with Goodreads and also which was the LEAST popular...

And which of those 19 books was the highest rated on Goodreads, (which I entirely agree with, it was an awesome book!)

Here's the books I read in 2015:

To help me meet or beat my goal, I will be starting with these three books that I was able to find yesterday after a successful Goodwill shopping trip with my mom:

Excellent books that I was so lucky to find! Schindler's List has 4.34 stars on Goodreads, The Red Tent has 4.14 and A Beautiful Mind has 4.09. Have you read any of them? Which would you recommend I start off with?

Happy reading in 2016 and let me know if you have any recommendations of books that I should add!

I Am My Mother and Proud of it!

I've seen the quote above posted on facebook several time by different women and I realize it's true and I'm proud of it. My mom has the wisdom of the ages and if I can be like her in any small way it's ok with me!

It's funny how much we become what our mothers are/were. I was reading a blog post from Arlee at Wrote by Rote, he's doing a great A thru Z Challenge using Music. His letter today was "V" and he chose the song Volare by Dean Martin. I'm listening to the youtube video he posted while I write this and I remember Dean from his movies with Jerry Lewis...what a voice!

Arlee tells of his mother's love of music and how he remembers her stacking a pile of albums on their hi-fi and doing her housework to the sound of music. What a wonderful memory for him. He then asks:

What songs do you associate most with your childhood? Did you have a stay-at-home mom and did she listen to music in the daytime? How old were you when you first began to appreciate music?

My comment to his post has actually turn into a post. I find that happens ALOT and that is why I love reading other bloggers, because they inspire me.

I commented, "Your mom loved music and played it often. My mom wasn't a big fan of music. I rarely remember it being played in our home so I never became a fan of music and even now only listen to it on the radio in the car. I don't have an iPod, I don't download music, I don't buy CD's. But mom loved books and I grew up with a love of reading. Mom loved games so I have every game imaginable. Mom loved puzzles, so I in turn love puzzles, even though now I do them online."

To this day I read all the time. Everyone in my family is a great fan of reading in the bathroom and believe it or not there have been times I've been in other people's bathrooms where there is no reading material and I've read the back of cans of Comet and Ajax, shampoo bottles, Mr Clean and Formula 409! I know my brothers and sister would probably 'fess up to the same thing! Mom taught us that! Well not reading Ajax bottles, but she gave us our love of reading.

Mom loved games, we played Yahtzee, Scrabble, Monopoly, Cards, Pick Up Sticks, Jenga, Cootie, Sorry and so many more! Mom always won, always! Now we look back and think maybe she was a bit of a cheater? We can't prove it, but we still suspect it. Dad would sleep in his recliner and every once in a while when we got too loud and woke him up he would look at us like we were nuts and go right back to sleep, knowing his little family was safe and sound and having fun!

Two things were always on our dining room table growing up. One one side was my mom's sewing machine. She was and is a Master Seamstress! She would make matching dresses for me, my sister and one for her! She would make doll clothes. She even sewed the Cheerleader Outfits for me and my fellow Cheerleaders in high school one year. We looked like dolls in our very unique Blue and Gold Cheerleader outfits!

The thing on the other side of the dining room table growing up was a big piece of plywood with a jigsaw puzzle on it. Mom always had a puzzle going. She would buy most of them at yard sales. We loved to spend quiet time in the evening just sitting there eating a little snack and working on the puzzle with mom. My favorite time was when we would start a new puzzle and she would divide up the pieces in the top and bottom of the box and then give one to me to pick out the edge pieces as we always built the frame first, then divided up the remaining pieces by color.

I shocked a friend recently when I told him that I wasn't a big fan of music and that growing up we never listened to music. He was stunned and said, "I can't imagine a house with no music. Music is the life of a house!" I told him, "Well I can't imagine a house without books, that was what brought life and other worlds and culture and opened up the world to us!" And that is what my mother taught me.

What's your favorite memory as a child with your mother? or your Father? Was music a big part of your world growing up? Or were you more bookish like me? I'd love to know!
