My Name is Alicia, and I am a Foodie

I think I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’m a Foodie and not a true cook and/or chef. What is a Foodie you may ask? I found this definition here., “Foodie is an informal term for a particular class of aficionado of food and drink. The word was coined in 1981 by Paul Levy and Ann Barr, who used it in the title of their 1984 book The Official Foodie Handbook.”

All summer I’ve been ruthlessly reading, ogling and drooling over various food blogs. I’ve got a whole file saved in my favorites of recipes that I want to try. I’ve learned all the terms that Foodies use. I can tell a Beefsteak tomato from an Heirloom tomato or a Roma tomato. I know how to make spun sugar, see how at Kitchen Wench.

But if you re-read the definition of a Foodie above, nowhere in that definition or others that I’ve read does it actually say you have to be able to, like and/or want to actually COOK. And that’s where my dilemma is…I love knowing food, but I don’t particularly like cooking…is that wrong in the Foodie world? Who knows, but I’m having a great time reading food blogs and saving recipes and I know I will try a few this winter. It’s just that my past excuse for not cooking much was that it was too hot to turn on the oven. But now it’s getting cooler and I can no longer use that as my excuse. Maybe I have to come up with new excuses…hmmm, lets see

*** It’s too cold to go out and buy groceries?
*** My oven doesn’t work?
*** I’m scared my oven may have a radon leak?
*** I’m still too weak from my surgery?

I’ll just use these in the upcoming weeks and see which one sticks. I think the too weak from surgery one is the real winner, but I hate to use up that excuse since it’s the excuse I want to use to get out of other things I don’t want to do, like washing my own car and mopping the kitchen floor!
