Patience - My Word for 2018

2017 was a tough year for me and for my whole family, but you can't move forward if you're too busy looking backwards right?

Knowing this I've decided to join in on a "Word of the Year" movement and for 2018 I've chosen the word "Patience".

I found the quote above and it spoke to me. I'm not by nature a patient person, but really... who of us is? What I like about the quote is that it points out the fact that patience is not the wait, it's the attitude you keep while waiting.

In 2018 I'm going to try my hardest to keep a good attitude, no matter what life throws at me.

If you had to pick a word of the year, what would word would you pick and why?

Happy 2018 and I hope patience comes easily to you!

  1. Sorry to hear about the tough year. May 2018 be the best year ever for you Alicia, and your family!
I like the quote; it's a clever and true one.

My word for 2018 would be ME. I intend to be Me, act Me, be with Me, listen to Me - in short, put myself at the head of my life agenda. If you say it sounds like egoism, well, yes,it does. At my age (over 70) I have to be an egoist in order to survive in this harsh world.

    1. I hope 2018 turns it around!

No, I don't think it's egoism, I totally understand. We put everyone else above us almost our whole lives...so there comes a time when it's ok to think only of ourselves. Wow, over 70? There is no way I would have guessed that! Kudos to you and I love your word for 2018!

  2. Hi Alicia.

Patience is a good word to choose and also a great thing to have. Unless, of course, you mean ‘patients’ in which case you’d need to get a bigger place to keep everybody in. I’m sure you’d cope though. Even at mealtimes. You’d probably need to hire a few nurses to help you. It’s not easy. But you’d manage it. I don’t think you meant ‘patients’ ‘though. If you managed to maintain a level of patienc after reading this - well done .You deserve to be awarded with an OBE. Except you’re not British.

    1. Haha Terry, good play on the word! I have a patient actually that I'm caring for right now, my mom who is elderly and just released from the hospital with double pneumonia followed up immediately with blood clots in her leg. She's pretty bummed and I have to be patient (meaning I have to keep a good attitude while waiting for her to get better).

Hoping she recovers and gets her strength back. I'm also going to try blogging more. I enjoy it so much but find that I have to make time for it. Happy New Year to you.

  3. And to you too. I’ve missed reading your blog. It’s put together so well and is always enjoyable to read. I think about your accent too. It must be nice to hear. But so different from mine. A lot of things will happen between now and next year. I’ll still be reading your blog to see what you’re doing. It’s great prose and should be in bookform. I’d buy a copy.
