My Art Journey - Rainbow Unicorns

So I'm sure you are all dying to know how my art journal is going right?

Well it's going great, I'm still in love with acrylic painting and I know I am getting better and better every day.

My latest and greatest was painting a very special painting using a tutorial from Cinnamon Cooney, The Art Sherpa!

You know that big craze that was going around a couple of weeks ago? Starbucks came out with the Unicorn Frappuccino? This is what it looks like.

Pretty right? So bright and sparkly and cheerful! I really wanted to try one, but the carb count is pretty high on this one. I like to stick to 20 to 30 carbs per day, this one drink is 67 carbs!!!

So I was thrilled when the Art Sherpa did a tutorial showing us how to paint this! I give you my carb-free version of the Unicorn Rainbow Frappuccino!

Kinda cute right? I just love the bright colors, I'm a sucker for bright pretty colors.

I took it to work to display in my office. It adds a lot of color and it just makes me happy to see it every day.

If you would like to watch The Art Sherpa create this just follow THIS LINK. Even if you just want to watch her, she's adorable!

Did any of you try this drink? What did you think of it?It's gotten very mixed reviews by the people I've asked.

  1. How do you count carbs? I'm only familiar with calorie count(and I'm glad to admit that it works for me, so I'm asking only out of curiosity).
I'm also familiar with the word 'Sherpa' but which has nothing to do with acrylic painting; still it is related to art, in my opinion. The Sherpa are an ethnic group living in the Nepal Himalayas, and they make wonderful things out of wool.I've got some knitted Sherpa items of which I'm very fond.

Your Frappucino painting is adorable. Kudos to you for sticking to your art.I'm sure it has opened a new, exciting world for you.

    1. I'll start with the answer to your question about the word Sherpa. You are correct, that word has to do with the ethnic group in the Himalayas. I believe when one would hire a guide to help them traverse mountains in the Himalayas they would hire one of the Sherpas, hence they began to be called Sherpa. You wanted a good guide, you hired a Sherpa who was an expert.

That is why Cinnamon Cooney is "the art sherpa", she is my personal art guide. She helps me by sharing her experience and expertise in all things art. She's an amazingly gifted person, not only artistically but also as a teacher and guide. I've learned so much from her. Ok...so that got a little long, but hopefully you will understand why she uses the Sherpa term and yes they also do make beautiful and expensive items out of wool!

Thank you, I love that painting. I have done a few others that I am super happy with but I just haven't had as much time to blog as I would like. Will share soon though.

As to counting carbs, it's easy. In order to follow my low carb way of life you want to stick to 20 to 30 carbs per day. On the back on labels it shows you the carb count, then you subtract any fiber and that gives you the carb count per serving. Maybe I'll do a post about it in the near futures. Thanks DUTA for stopping by, always a pleasure!

  2. Your colorful unicorn painting looks fantastic, so much livelier than the original. I've never had a Starbucks drink even though there is a Starbucks inside my grocery store. BTW, I love the flower painting in your header. :)

    1. Hi Diane! Thank you. I love this painting because it's so bright and cheerful and I love Starbucks. My favorite drink there is a Venti Breve Latte with one Splenda. It's creamy and delicious, almost like a dessert. My sister prefers the White Chocolate Mocha Hot, a bit too sweet for me. You should try one sometime while you shop :)

Thank your about the header, that one was my first using a palette knife and I was pretty happy with the way it turned out. I have on my to-do list to paint a succulent like the one in your thumbnail, coming soon...
